share the love...

Vintage Cookie Jars

A recent collection that I have accidentally just started (that seems to happen a lot) is vintage cookie jars.
I am especially entranced by the "bisque" colored ones and usually always something that is anthropomorphic is equally attractive to me.
Here are some that I have found for you to browse around on Etsy.
Enjoy!

Thrift shop downer...

Arghhhh...

First off... how incredibly cute is this vintage children's table set? I'm pretty sure I almost died when I spotted it across the store. I was so geeked about it that as i walked over to it, i was imagining all of the places that i could put it and exactly how i could paint my little girls future room to match it perfectly...

Then...i got real close up. And needless to say... i. was. crushed.

Almost every inch of the set was covered in packaging tape...

You see, the thrift stores around here have a way of over taping EVERYTHING. Normally it's not a problem when i buy Pyrex bowls or atomic glassware but i feel like there should be some sort class for the store associates on taping up vintage paper things. I can't tell you how many times i have taken home old board games, or children's books, or cute 1950's cardboard wall hangings that I've had to carefully peel away the packaging tape or price tag...and inevitably had to pull off bits of the beauty from them. It physically hurts when i have to strip away some of that vintage loveliness.

So...back to this table...every single image on the table and chairs were absolutely COVERED in this tape stuff and i already knew there was no way i could salvage it after peeling the tape away...so i regrettably walked away from it and sighed...i'm pretty sure a small piece of me died. Not really...it just hurt a bit. So, for the rest of the time i spent in the shop i was telling myself all the reasons it was ok to not take the table home... #1. the tape would destroy it  #2. My little Mar already had an amazing table and didn't need another one and  #3. there was nowhere to fit the table right now... I felt a little better...but not completely.

Its a sickness...it really is.

In the shop...

Original Collages!

Ever since I was a little girl, I have been creating. My mother is an incredible and beautiful artist and I was very fortunate as a child to grow up with all sorts of art supplies constantly surrounding me. We didn't have a lot of money when I was little, but we were never in short supply of creative mediums. I was always transforming cardboard boxes into rocket ships or "great glass elevators." I was making my own Plinko boards out of old drywall and nails...using quarters for the chips. I was a water coloring, finger painting, collage making, Play-Doh building, Lego constructing fool! I was also an only child for 13 years of my life with two hard working parents so I needed to keep myself busy...and being creative was (and still is) my forte'.

So...with that being said...I present to you one of my favorite things to create...

My collages.

Mixed medias of vintage discarded children's book illustrations, vintage magazines...and a few found tidbits here and there.

Each piece is very special to me and at first, I was only offering prints of them...then I decided to sweeten the deal a bit and make it a little more special than that. I am now only exclusively offering the originals. I know how special it feels to own an original piece of artwork. It makes you feel somewhat connected to the artist in a way. I absolutely love looking at the original pieces of other artists that are in my home. I have one in particular that I received as a trade from a very sweet girl I met at an art festival last summer. It's in my kitchen, in a spot I look at every day...and every day it makes me smile.

I am planning on creating a lot more of these in a bunch of different sizes so that I can have a nice range of prices. Smaller collages will be priced in the $5-$15 range... Medium collages in the $15-$25 range and larger will be $25+

I am constantly taking on new projects for myself and I have a few up my sleeve that I'm dying to start working on and put up in the shop.
Keep on the lookout for my new additions...I've got the creative itch...and I'm ready to go with it!

Hope you are having a lovely Sunday!

I absolutely adore vintage children's clothing!

I always get so geeked when I find some good vintage pieces but I've never had the luck of actually finding any that will fit my little one...shes always a size up from whatever i find! One of these days...i might get super lucky and stumble across a box chock-full of clothes that are just waiting for me to dress her in...one can hope.

Until then...i shall put them up in the shop for all of you to enjoy!

Much love!

I'm all about sharing the love in the art and vintage world.
So along with posting things up for sale in my shop...i will also occasionally be doing the same for others.
Sharing makes me happy :).....and its something you learn when you are 2. (just ask my daughter.)

Hope you enjoyed this first edition of "sharing the love."

the bookshelf...

The Animal Fair

This series "the bookshelf" is for all you vintage book lovers out there.
I imagine this will be made up mostly of vintage children's books since that is one of my biggest passions...but don't be surprised if there is the occasional vintage cookbook (another fav) or harlequin romance (cover art is always fun!) thrown in...

To begin the series is this little beauty right here...
The Animal Fair (A Rand McNally Junior Elf Book) --- they are usually my fav finds!
Published in 1964. By Ellen Wilkie and Illustrated by Herbert Kane

The illustrations are to die for! The whole story is super cute and rhymes all the way through...

One of my favorite lines in the book :
"A clever chimpanzee. In silk pantaloons. Is grinning and chinning. And selling balloons."

I've found two copies for you on Etsy in case you fall in love, like I have...
Here at REadCycle. and also here at PrairieGhostVintage.

Enjoy!

New in the shop...

Vintage Children's Multiplication Records!

Now available in the shop! <---click here!
// $16 + ship //

So...I decided that I had enough time today ((before work)) to list 15 vintage goodies in the shop...and needless to say...i was a little off in my timing calculations! I've apparently forgotten just how long it takes to list an item...especially if you are a tad OCD about it like I am...woops!

But don't worry! I'm planning on putting a ton more vintage goodies in the shop within the next two days!
Which reminds me...i really need to go buy some good coffee and/or tea for my upcoming shop sessions of listing frenzy!

Hope you all have a fabulous Mother's Day! ((I'm a little early...but just in case I'm busy tomorrow, I wanted to send out a warm wish!))
